FIREFLY BY OLGA HANONO IS AWARDED AS BEST OF THE YEAR BY ELLE DECOR IN CHINA
The lamp was chosen for the Annual Cross-Border Design Award at the Elle Deco 2022 Best of the Year Awards, held annually to recognise and celebrate design excellence in China and internationally, with winners chosen by a team of professional judges from Elle Deco magazine in China.
The theme for this year’s awards was “Welcome Back”, a reflection on the importance of home and a place to return to. Yan Mi, publisher and Omnimedia Editorial Director, described the theme as follows: “Going home is a constant theme in life. Hopefully, these small havens for us and our families will become the most precious and creative spaces for everyone”.
Designed as part of the brand’s ongoing search for innovation, Lladró’s collaboration with the celebrated Mexican interior designer Olga Hanono combines elegance with functionality. This porcelain lighting collection was given a new look with Hanono’s bold signature style of black and metallic colours.
While its soft light evokes the magic of fireflies, the lamp is a unique work of art thanks to the organic forms that demonstrate the creative potential of porcelain. The delicate touches of gold luster, hand-painted by Lladró’s artists in Spain, are characteristic of Hanono’s creative process. Hanono says of the design: “For me, porcelain is synonymous with purity. My inspiration was to create a piece that feels like sculpture. Extolling the value of the handmade, the subtlety and finesse of the design takes us back to the very essence of the art of sculpture.”
The award is the latest confirmation of Lladró’s continuing success in China, where its handcrafted products are highly appreciated for their unique artistic quality and innovation.
